Lars Thestrup

Ascend Ketamine Co-Founder & Medical Director

As the medical director of several local emergency rooms, and with years of experience as an emergency physician, Lars Thestrup brings years of clinical experience to Ascend Ketamine. Lars is also on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Inspired by the possibility of helping the thousands of individuals suffering in Houston, Lars established Ascend in 2017, alongside a team of highly-trained medical experts.

Darrell Calderon

Ascend Ketamine Co-Founder

Dr. Calderon brings an abundance of experience to Ascend Ketamine. After completing his residency in Emergency Medicine in 2000, Dr. Calderon has had many roles. His roles have included working in a busy emergency center in the Texas Medical Center as well as serving his country as the Division Surgeon for the 75th Training Support Division in the US Army Reserves. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of a local hospital. His interests include emergency airway management as well as critical care in the emergency department. During his free time, Dr. Calderon enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.

Barry Diner

Ascend Ketamine Co-Founder & Medical Director

Barry Diner is on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Barry is double boarded in Emergency Medicine and Hospice. He completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Weill Medical College of Cornell Medical School and was appointed chief resident in his final year. Barry has a special interest in palliative care and pain management. He is presently a team physician for Vitas Hospice Care.

Jesus Arroyo

Ascend Ketamine Co-Founder

Dr. Jesus Arroyo has over a decade of experience as an attending in academic and community emergency medicine physician in the Houston area. His special interest is in the research area, working as principal investigator, supervising multiple pharmaceutical study protocols. Alongside his colleagues, Ascend Ketamine was devised to give more options to an ailing Houston population.
